As soon as COVID-19 made its appearance and people started needing masks, Christy went to work. She has made approximately 1300 masks with washable filters on her own and given them to individuals, families, and local organizations that have been clamoring for more and more. Christy would often work 10 hours a day cutting and sewing masks. All of her masks were customized as to fit (she made different sizes so that the masks would fit each person snugly whether it was for a large man or a little child). When she had a request for masks that had a wire to bend around the nose to make the mask seal tighter, she incorporated wires into the masks. It was truly a work of love on her part.

Guled works are Refugee Women's Alliance. Before COVID-19, his job was to help immigrants and refugees sign up for English classes, find jobs, and learn how to pay their utility bills, open a bank account, sign up for citizenship classes, learn about the local school system, go to parent-teacher conferences, and sooo much more. Now, with COVID-19, he is also a public health worker, helping his Somali-speaking families learn how to stay safe. We call him "Dr. G" because before he immigrated to Seattle, he was a surgeon. He brought his family hear to escape a civil war in Somalia. I am nominating him because, although I have 150 other colleagues just like him--who help people from all over the world who have moved to the Puget Sound,--when I asked our office manager, "Whom should I nominate for this Everyday Heroes Sweepstakes?" --the answer I got was, "Dr. G." Plus, despite all his accomplishments and how much he helps, people he's very shy. But for everything he does for his clients, this will good practice for him to come out of his shell. (: Kind regards, Joanne Walby Refugee Women's Alliance Communications Officer PS I don't have an image because he always jumps away from the camera--but if you select him for this award, I will be able to get one.

My husband is my hero. He works hard to support his family and our community. He is the Fire Chief for our town and works endless hours to keep the department running during these crazy times. He has served our community for over 25 years and I couldn't be more proud if him.

Doug is an amazing and loving husband and father of 5. He’s always provided and taken care of those around him. Including while at work. He’s a police sergeant for the city of Canby. And even in these crazy times, he goes to work everyday to help and protect its citizens. And with stressful days, he’s still always happy and available to anyone who needs his help. Wether it’s for family, or working overtime to help out his fellow officers. He’s for sure a hero to anyone that knows him.

My Dad works for Franz Bakery and is a route delivery driver. He works directly with the public. He has a great attitude when it comes to taking care of the community around him. Jerry goes the extra mile to keep his environment clean. Jerry wears gloves while handling product that the consumer would buy. Jerry wears a mask keeping his surroundings safe. Jerry wipes down the cab of his truck with sanitary wipes so that his personal driving environment is safe. Jerry is always greeting his customers with a smile but the smile they only see is from the eyes but they know he is happy to see them. I nominate Jerry for being super safe Thanks Jerry for all you do.
